Let's all make sure we agree on what a Class A motorhome is. For starters, motorhomes don't require vehicles to tow them. This means they come with their own drivetrain and fuel, so all you have to do is get in the driver's seat and go!Motorhomes are further broken down into subcategories based on the type of frame they’re built on. If you look at a Class A motorhome, you might notice it reminds you a little of a bus. That’s a good way to define these motorcoaches: their bus-like chassis and noticeably flat front with a panoramic windshield.
It's Bigger!
Another thing you might notice about Class A motorhomes is their size. Class A's are generally the largest RVs you'll find on the market. This is especially true when you start looking into Class A diesel motorhomes, or diesel pushers as they’re sometimes called. On average, you’ll be looking at a rig that's between 30 and 45 feet long. Throw in a few slide-outs and you’ll have a mobile home that’s almost as spacious as some stationary homes. Plus, you’ll get a lot of interior height for all the taller campers in your family.Getting to Your Destination
If you do ultimately decide on purchasing a Class A motorhome, you’ll want to keep in mind that driving one of these rigs is going to require some new skills. The center of gravity is going to be higher, which means it’s going to be easier to tip over. You’ll also notice that the brakes feel a little different. Class A motorhomes use air brakes, which can be better for maintenance and security, but means you’ll need to allow more time to come to a complete stop. Spend lots of time practicing driving your new motorcoach before you hit the road. From turning to braking to high-speed driving, you’ll want to treat driving a Class A like you’re a brand new driver and give yourself all the time you need so that you feel entirely comfortable behind the wheel!Think that the Class A motorhome might be the right RV for you?
